Do I need my own doctor’s order to buy a lab test?
Usually not — that is the point of direct-to-consumer testing. The services arrange the required clinician authorization through affiliated physician networks, so ordering feels like e-commerce even though a physician order sits behind it. State rules vary, and a few states restrict some direct-access testing, so services publish state availability. None of this replaces having a clinician who knows your history; it just changes who authorizes the lab work.
