What’s the difference between a home and a legal paternity test?
The DNA science is generally identical — accredited labs, the same analysis. The difference is documentation. A legal paternity test uses witnessed, chain-of-custody collection with verified identities, which is what makes the result admissible for court, child support, or immigration purposes (where AABB-accredited labs are the standard). A home kit collected privately answers the personal question for less money, but cannot be upgraded into a legal result afterward — if court use is even a possibility, buy the legal version the first time.
