FAQ · STD Testing

Are at-home STD tests as accurate as clinic tests?

The reputable services process samples in the same class of CLIA-certified laboratories that clinics use, often with the same lab methods (such as NAAT for chlamydia and gonorrhea). The main accuracy variables are collection quality — a clinic draw removes self-collection error — and timing, since testing inside an infection’s window period can miss it; the CDC publishes timing guidance for exactly this reason. Lab-visit services like those with in-person draws remove the collection variable entirely. Whether and when to test, and what a result means, are questions for a healthcare provider.
